Journey To Africa

SUPPORT US

A fundraising gala dedicated to supporting the training and education of future generations. Our events celebrate the talents of young dancers and influential choreographers of African and Caribbean descent. All funds raised go to support AkomaAsa's youth International Social Cultural Exchange programme (ISCEE).

In March 2024, 14 young people travelled to Senegal, Ecole des Sable, home of the renowned Senegalese dancer and choreographer Germaine Acogny. The journey explored Senegalese culture, dance, music, gaining insights into history and artistry and landmarks with the region.

Programmes

AkomaAsa Performing Arts Academy's training programs are designed to cater to children and young people (CYP) who aspire to pursue careers in the creative industry.

Our mission is to nurture talent, foster creativity, and impart essential skills that not only prepare our CYP for a career in the arts but also contribute to personal confidence, self-esteem, and a profound appreciation of social and cultural heritage.

Through our programs, young individuals are empowered to explore their artistic potential, gain a deeper understanding of their own identity, and embrace the richness of diverse cultural narratives.

Classes

We offer a diverse range of classes and holiday intensive workshops, tailored to inspire and empower CYP of all backgrounds between 6- 16+. These include hand and stick drumming techniques and percussion, a range of Western and African dance forms, music, drama and musical theatre.

Our curriculum is designed to ignite creativity, encourage self-expression, and cultivate a deep appreciation for culture and various art forms. Through these dynamic and enriching programs, CYP are given the opportunity to explore their passion for the performing arts, develop their skills, and collaborate with peers in a supportive and inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and cultural expression.
